My journey has taken me through diverse fields, shaping how I approach design today. I am grateful for my current role as a designer and appreciate the effort it took to transition through each stage:
✦ During my research years in the material lab, I’ve gained humility in scientific rigor and trained the tinkering rationale of ‘microstructure and macroscopic properties’ —a reminder that small changes compound into tangible impact.
✦ Working in a change consultancy was a crash course for the importance of alignment, which is essential for driving behavioral change.
✦ At a SaaS company, I immersed myself in the agile way of working - defining problems and most importantly, commit to goals that benefit both users and business success.
What are designers?
“Form follows function” - a design motto.
“Function reforms form, perpetually” - Stewart Brand.
✦
This same dynamism of form and function applies to the definition of a "designer". As the responsibilities of design evolves, adapting to various problems in the changing world, so does this title of the role.
I believe the action of ‘designing’ has intrinsic potential to make changes. Making ideas tangible, or visual-thinking in particular, serves as a superpower to bridge knowledge gaps throughout the design process.
